  1. Tuneage Loves Cover Songs

    tuneage:

One of my favorite things about music is that once a song is out there, anyone with the chops to play the tune can whip up their own version of it. Of course there are good covers and bad covers, but if you ask me, the best cover songs are the ones that aren’t just a regurgitation of the original, but rather explore an aspect of the song not found in the original. So with that in mind, the Tuneage “staff” have each chosen their favorite covers:

    • Bill: TV on the Radio’s Mr Grieves (originally by The Pixies)
    • Richard: Tobias Froberg’s What Goes Around (originally by Justin Timberlake)
    • Amy: The Arcade Fire’s Poupée de Cire, Poupée de Son (originally by France Gall)
    • Russell: The Bad Plus’ Everybody Wants to Rule the World (originally by Tears for Fears)
    • Jillian: Ciccone Youth’s Into the Groovey (originally by Madonna)
    • Matt: Jose Gonzalez’s Heartbeats (originally by The Knife)
    • Dave: The Shins’ We Will Become Silhouettes (originally by the Postal Service)

We’ve uploaded these to the Tuneage muxtape along with a few other favorites, so head over there and give ‘em a listen. And if you can think of any excellent covers we’ve overlooked, call us names in the comments and tell us what we missed.

Wow, I love covers too. The Raveonettes doing “My Boyfriend’s Back” is pretty much all I’ll ever need.
